Right all, here is the finalised details for the FRAG Gaming League for 2010. There might be one or small amendments, such as how the finals will work for The Showcase, but this is the main format.
FRAG Gaming LeagueInfo: FRAG Gaming league is an initiative aimed at growing the competitve gamer base in KZN. With a set format of games, points awarded and rewards, the idea is to encourage gamers to form longstanding clans with which to participate in competitive gaming. The teams that are formed and that compete in the league will be rewarded (points & prizes) on a monthly basis, dependant on their position in the monthly tournaments. Clans are encouraged to register, play and stay together to maintain a historical record of their progress which will then aid them to obtaining recognition from the national organisations that recognise electronic sports.
Games:Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare: the format for this league game will be the offical 5v5 Search and Destroy format and will run according to the FRAG ruleset based on AGASA's rules.
DoTA: As per the norm, 5v5 DoTA with the latest offical map.
Schedule:Call of Duty 4:
*Main months: February, April, July & September.
*Secondary Months: March, May, August & October
DoTA:*Main Months: March, May, August & October
*Seconday Months: February, April, July & September.
Rules:A team must consist of a minimum of 5 players, with
[edit]a max of 2 substitutes [/edit]. Once registered for the league, that will be the team name for the remainder of the league year. Should a team wish to change names throughout the league, this will need to be applied for and is not guaranteed. A maximum of 2 players are allowed to rotate out of the team only once throughout the league without forfeiting the points awarded to that date. Should a team have a change of more than 2 players, this will constitute a new team and that "new" team will then forfeit all points awarded to the previous team up to that date.
Teams are required to register on the official LANGames site (
http://www.langames.co.za) and to register each team member respectively. LANGames will be the official site for the running of the ranking system and any team not registered on the site will not be eligible to be awarded points at the event.
[note: as the LANGames site is not officially completed yet, teams will still get their points, however, once the site is officially up, each team will need to register (individual players included) within 1 month. Failing to do so, will result in that team being disqualified from the FRAG Gaming League]
Points: Only the top 10 teams for that particular month will win points. If there are fewer than 10 teams per month, then the remainder of the points will fall away.In the "Main-game" for the month according to the schedule, the points pool will be a total of 110 points. The "secondary-game" for that same month will have a points pool of 55 points. The points pool will be divided as follows:
Position - Main / Secondary1st - 20 / 10
2nd - 18 / 9
3rd - 16 / 8
4th - 14 / 7
5th - 12 / 6
6th - 10 / 5
7th - 8 / 4
8th - 6 / 3
9th - 4 /
10th - 2 / 1
Prizes:As this is the first year of the league as well as it being very early in the year, prizes are not confirmed. However, there will be prizes for the final at the end of the year, as well as the title of FRAG Gaming League Champions for 2010. Details on prizes will be announced as they come in. FRAG is working hard at making this an extraordinary league of gamers and with prizes that are fitting of this.
Amendments** the finals hosted in December at The Showcase will be a 16-team tournament, with the top 10 teams from the FGL throughout the year going through. That means there is a 6-team wildcard draw that will take place. This is how it will work.
In order for a team to qualify for the 6-team wildcard draw, a minimum of 2 events need to be attended by the team wishing to qualify for a wildcard place. These events can be at any time during the year and can be entered by any team, inside or outside the province. Should a local team, that competes in the league not make it into the top 10 for the finals, that team will have the points they have accumulated, divided by the amount of events they have attended and that will be their placement in the "Wildcard slots".
Teams entering the league from other provinces will need to attend a minimum of 2 events and the same calculation will be used.
[note: this is also subject to change slightly, but the basis will remain]
** there will also be a separate tournament for Call of Duty 4 and DoTA at The Showcase, that is for those that have not participated in the league. These will either be round robin, or double elimination, depending on the numbers of teams entered. Naturally, the prizes won't be that of the same to the FGL.
