Hey everyone, The FRAG team is currently on the bus-trip back from rAge, well, most of us are. The rest are in the caddy with the pc's. Anyhow, we just thought we'd share our feedback with you guys as soon as possible, while it's still fresh in our heads and hearts. But first, please go here and book for your FRAG Showcase tickets. By the sound of it, we are going to be packed so best get your tickets as early as possible. So, here is the rAge feedback. First up, the exhibition section of rAge was awesome. Great displays by most of the major online and offline IT and specialised gaming industry giants. Intel, Computersonlysd, Coke, NAG, Telkom and even Nivo, a relatively new online shop which is taking the country by storm. No cost was spared at the exhibition section of the event and it is given FRAG a very clear indication of what needs to be done in order for us to host a similar event in the very near future. Massive prizes were being won constantly, myself (douglash) being the winner of a xBox as well as a Intel motherboard. But the Intel stage was where it was all happening. They had the live finals for the 6 spots to Dreamhack which was decided in a Call of Duty FFA tournament. Demos of Far Cry 2 with the developer of the game giving commentary while playing the game and the audience watching on big screen. Look out for this game in the next couple of weeks. The Lair was there hosting a Megarom sponsored Guitar Hero tournament with major prizes up for grabs. Intel was ever-present with their Laptop Gaming Zone which showcased the latest gaming laptops. Also on display, the Intel Extreme Zone displayed the ever-popular Overclocking exhibition. Legends the likes of Neo (Gouhan), Seth (s e t h), Marc (TraX) and Goddy (Vivi) were there attempting to break the world record in the latest benchmarks. As it stands right now, the South African record was broken and they are going for Global later today. Further updates to this post will be made as the day and week goes on and we get more feedback from the event so keep checking in here. As for the Open LAN, what can we say but WoW?!? A clear indication to the FRAG team as to where our events are headed. One or 2 issues, as always at an event, but in general a relatively flawless LAN. The tournaments got under way without too much delay and in fact they are still going. The Open LAN area was massive - the power very capable, the network was stable, although in all honesty not at FRAG's standard speeds, but the network was there for gaming and that's what counts. The area for the Open LAN was very spacious and very accommodating for every type of gamer that attended the event. At any one time there was at least 15 COD4 servers running and going strong. The level of competition was across the spectrum with every skill level being seen at the event. Congratulations to FiB for doing so well in the event, from the info we could gather at the event, FiB had not lost a game in the entire event. How it stands now is a bit of a mystery, but we wish them luck. Congratulations to NSF and MED for representing the KZN side of the DoTA tournament. Although they did not do as well as what we know they are capable of, FRAG still knows they are champions in our eyes. That's about it for now, but check out the forums for further details on the event as well as feedback from the FRAG team themselves. A huge thanks to Eric and the rest of the team at rAge for hosting such a fantastic event and for being so approachable at the actual event. Til later... the FRAG team |
