FRAG 26th September - Bookings Full!!
Thursday, 25 September 2008 15:20

Well, for the first time in a FRAG, the bookings are full! We have had events that are full, but never the bookings... This can mean only 1 thing... FRAG rocks!!

Anyhow, an update. FRAG is happening tomorrow 26th September 2008 at Westville Boys High School, in their drama hall to be precise. Clearly this is going to be the last event we have at the school as they just cannot accommodate the size LAN's that FRAG plans to have every month.

We are in the process of negotiations with Edgewood Campus, UKZN (where we had the September 5th event) that we get Edgewood every month for next year. If FRAG can get that right, then we can literally have a 400-man LAN every month. Something that Durban has been wanting for a long time now. Finally we can look at Cape Town and Jhb and so we're getting to there level, and fast. Well done to you guys, the gamers, for making this happen.

FRAG wouldn't be FRAG without our gamers... See you Friday for a packed event... I must apologise now in advance if it is a tad cramped, but hey, what can we say, gamers want LAN's in Durban... so let's give it to them!!

FRAG as always, "For gamers, by gamers..."

September saw the first FRAG LAN Major event take place and you can rest assure it is not the last. We had over 200 gamers at the event and as we had hoped, gamers just walked in and started gaming.

What was a real bonus was that this was the first LAN of this size we have done and we didn’t have 1 power issue the entire weekend. Big up to the FRAG team for pulling this off.

The event was sponsored by Omega, Intel, Chaintech and Coke. Once again The Lair did an excellent job at running all the tournaments at the event and another first for FRAG was the dedicated finals area on the stage at the venue. This allowed the finalists to be above everyone else while the rest of the LAN watched the finals on the big screen from uber-comfy couches. Well done to FiB for winning the COD4 tournament once again but it was by no means a walkover. Clan Dodgy gave FiB a run for their money and the finals ended with FiB taking it by 13-9 rounds. This just goes as evidence that the standard of gaming in KZN is growing and soon we will have new champions.

Next was the DoTA 3rd place playoff and this was just as exciting but in the end it was Clan FTW that finished in 3rd place. The final was then held between Clan’s NSF and MED with NSF edging out MED in a closely contested final. Clan NSF won themselves Intel processors, some Quad and some Core 2 Duo as well as entry to the rAGe 2008 NAG LAN and entry to the DoTA tournament. Clan MED also walked away with a team entry to the rAge 2008 NAG LAN DoTA tournament, being held at rAge 2008 from the 3rd – 5th October.

Another aspect which was great to see was the amount of clans coming to play and win. I’m sure everyone at the LAN will agree when we say that CLAN DF was the best dressed clan clearly displaying their attitude towards their gaming, dressed in custom clan clothing. Check out the Gallery section of our forums for pics on this.

Lastly, and most importantly, a HUGE thanks to our sponsors. Omega, Intel, Chaintech and Coke!! Without you these types of events would not be possible. A special thanks goes to Leslie from Omega for sponsoring the cost of the venue. This allowed FRAG to free up some valuable resources and ensure the power was sufficient, not just for this event, but for future events as well..

This was “the best” FRAG event yet… thanks to the FRAG team for a job well done….  Coming up…

FRAG and spam
Thursday, 04 September 2008 12:26

Last night, we had an incident on the forums where a user representing a competing event went through the memberlist, found users that were accepting other users to send them e-mail through the forum, and spammed them with details about their event.

We do not condone this behaviour - we have permitted users to advertise their own events in the designated forum section in attempt to boost gaming in KwaZulu-Natal in general, but that is as far as we will permit things to go. Likewise, we will not spam users on other websites.

The user in question has been removed from our community; any event staff from his event will be prohibited from using our forum for any reason whatsoever.

Should any user receive any spam e-mail originating from someone else on this website, please let us know. We take spam complaints extremely seriously.

The e-mail spam has created some confusion about the dates of our next event. It will still be happening this weekend, as originally planned.
