We've set the date for the next event to be 7-9 December. Unfortunately the Crawford hall was already booked, so we're making a temporary move to the Drama Hall at Westville Boys High - feedback that I've received is that it's only slightly smaller than the Crawford hall, and that it meets the power requirements. Bookings for the December event are already open via LanGames - and as usual, if you can't book that way, feel free to drop me an e-mail or a call. As far as tournaments go, we'll be running DotA again. In addition, due to popular request, Counter-Strike 1.6 will be making an appearance; this will be the main tournament at the event. There will also be some classic WarCraft III and Unreal Tournament 2004. Added to that, we're going to be trying something new this time around - at 22:00 on the Saturday, we'll run the game of your choice. Please register on the forums and tell us what you would like it to be - the game that gets the most votes will win. The schedule for the event is as follows: Friday 7 December - 19:00 - Doors Open
- 22:00 - DotA tournament starts (will run all weekend)
Saturday 8 December - 08:00 - Breakfast on sale
- 11:00 - Unreal 2004
- 13:00 - Lunch on sale
- 15:00 - Warcraft III
- 19:00 - Counter-Strike 1.6 tournament (main tournament)
- 22:00 - YOU decide what we run; please tell us on the forums. (Obviously it has to be something not mentioned above.)
Sunday 9 December We've done a bit of an upgrade to our networking infrastructure, and purchased a 48 port Gigabit smart switch for the networking core. Of those ports, 10 ports will be used for uplinks to other switches, and we'll be offering 10 ports on the core switch for the first 10 people that show up. The other 28 ports on the switch can be booked for. Once you've registered for the event, drop me an e-mail or phone call (see the Bookings page for the contact details) indicating that you want to be upgraded to business class the core switch and I'll take care of the rest. Obviously, if you don't do this, I will assume that you're quite happy with a 10/100 connection. The entrance fee structure will work like this: - Basic entrance - R60
- Tournament participation - R75
- Plugged into core switch - R70
- Plugged into core switch and tournament participation - R90
The first 10 people to arrive will be charged R50 (excluding the tournament fee) and will (as previously mentioned) be plugged into the core switch. As far as prizes go for the event - so far, we've organised around R2000 worth of prizes for the event, and will look at more. Finally, a word about multiplugs. We had a couple of issues with these at the last event, so for the December event, we will be testing all your equipment with a multimeter before we allow you to plug into the power grid. Happy fragging! :) |
